Use Flipgrid with Pear Deck

Overview

Pear Deck has partnered with Flipgrid to help educators facilitate effective, interactive, and highly rewarding discussions with their students. Flipgrid is a simple, free video discussion platform that aims to make learning more fun, interactive, and empowering. Keep reading to learn how to incorporate Flipgrid seamlessly into your Pear Deck lesson!

How to use Pear Deck and Flipgrid together

  1. Sign up for a free Flipgrid account (available for Microsoft and Google users).
  2. Create a Flipgrid Group. A "Group" is a shared space within Flipgrid where you can invite learners to join a Discussion.
  3. Share your Group and invite learners from your Group to engage with the Topic.
  4. Record videos on the Topic, or create a new Topic. Learners will be able to record videos within your Group.

5. To start integrating Pear Deck templates on Flipgrid:

    1. Navigate to the Flipgrid “Discovery” page by clicking the dropdown menu in the upper righthand corner
    2. You will arrive at the Discovery Library.

    3. Scroll down to find the Partners section. Click “View all” and search for Pear Deck.
    4. Click on Pear Deck to start using Pear Deck Template Topics.

6. Select a Template Topic
    1. Select the Pear Deck Topic you’d like to use and click “Add Topic”
    2. Add this Topic to one of your current Groups or create a new Group.
    3. When adding to a current Group, you will be prompted to select which Group and then click “Save to group”.
    4. Then you will be prompted to “Go to my topics”.
    5. Now, you will see your Topic listed and ready to use.
    6. Click into the Pear Deck Topic to access the templates and embed Flipgrid into your slide deck.

 

How to embed Flipgrid into Pear Deck

  1. To embed your Flipgrid Topic into your Pear Deck, open the template.
  2. Next, click “Get Your Copy” and copy the file to your Drive.

  3. Open the Pear Deck Add-On within Google Slides by following the directions in the lower lefthand corner.
  4. Navigate to the slide you want the Flipgrid Topic embedded in.
  5. Using the Pear Deck sidebar, click the Website interactive question type.
  6. Go back to Flipgrid to locate the Share button for the Topic.
  7. Copy the URL.
  8. Go back to the Pear Deck slide to paste the Flipgrid URL and then click “Update slide”.
    The Flipgrid Topic will now be embedded on the slide using Pear Deck.
  9. Launch the Pear Deck session by clicking on “Start Lesson”.

    When you launch the session, students will be able to use Flipgrid right within the Pear Deck session.
