How to Present Google Slides Animations with Pear Deck Using the Power-Up Chrome Extension
Want to show a video about the Mars Rover in your Pear Deck presentation? Need to carefully layer in information on a slide to reduce information overload? Found a perfect GIF of a plant emerging from its seed? If you want your videos, animations, and GIFs to play at full resolution when you present with Pear Deck, install the Power-Up Google Chrome extension.
Only teachers, or those who are presenting with Pear Deck, need to install the extension. The changes will automatically apply to the Student View when students join the presentation.
Simply install the Power-Up from the Chrome Web Store on the device you use in class. After you authorize and install, it just works! When you present with Pear Deck using the Add-on, the Power-Up magically enables the display of your videos, animations, and GIFs on the projector and student devices.
1. Open the Pear Deck for Google Slides Add-on. Learn how to get this Add-on. In the Sidebar, click on the Pear Deck Power-up button. Or, go directly to the Google Chrome Web Store and skip to step #3.
2. Click Install via Chrome Store.
3. In the Google Chrome Web Store, click on Add to Chrome.
4. Click Add extension.
5. Voila! You've installed the Pear Deck Power-up. Now each time you present with Pear Deck, your videos, animations, and GIFs will be embedded and play at full resolution.
Powering up is pretty cool, but rest assured that your Pear Deck for Google Slides presentations will work exactly the way they always have, even if you don’t install it. That means the interactivity and student engagement you know and love will work just as it always has; no animations needed.
There’s a strong case to be made about avoiding information overload. As our own Slide Doctor advises us, visual content should be a delightful and helpful counterpart to your valuable lesson! So keep it simple and easy to scan, and keep those cat GIFs to a minimum!
